Published by George T. Fournier on March 18, 2010 at 12:42AM

Just in case the weather has you down (or you've already done all of your required reading for the spring term), we at FlyBy asked faculty members to give some reading suggestions for the remaining days of spring break. Here's what they told us.

  • Harvard Building Caught on Fire

Published by Eric P. Newcomer on March 17, 2010 at 3:06PM

Wicked Local reported Tuesday that a fire in "a Harvard University dorm on Sunday left the building with close to $100,000 in smoke damage."

While a Faculty of Arts and Sciences spokesperson Jeff Neal said that the University has  determined how much the damage would cost, he noted that the flames only damaged an electrical panel. The fire took place at 10 Akron St., at a property that contains 151 apartments that are rented out to Harvard affiliates.

  • Asbestos in Currier House

Published by Xi Yu on March 17, 2010 at 9:44PM

If you’ve made your way out to Currier House recently, you might have seen ladders and cables scattered throughout the House. Unfortunately, this construction project does not portend an exciting new treehouse party space for Quadlings. Instead, the hard-hat wearing (and sometimes noisy) workers are installing something a bit more mundane—a fire-fighting sprinkler system.

  • Controversy Hits Her Campus

Published by Matthew C. Stone on March 16, 2010 at 2:50AM

Earlier this year, HerCampus.com made headlines on Harvard’s campus when four students launched a new online magazine for college women. Over the past week, though, Her Campus has been the center of attention at another nearby school—Wellesley College.

  • BYU is More Popular than Harvard

Published by Julie M. Zauzmer on March 15, 2010 at 2:26AM
    Brigham Young would be proud.

Many of us Harvard students weren’t exactly known as the popular kids in high school. But it seems that as a university, we’re doing pretty well on the popularity scale. Still, we're not yet king.

U.S. News and World Report released its rankings of the Most Popular Colleges earlier this month. Harvard was named the second most popular university, trailing Brigham Young University for the top slot.

  • Internet Not Working?

Published by Xi Yu on March 14, 2010 at 4:18PM

UPDATE: Mar. 14, 2010, 4:18 p.m. FAS IT reports that all systems and services are back to normal.

If you're still on campus, and you woke up this morning to find your wireless Internet connection a little sub-par, don't fret: you weren't the only one.

FAS-IT has noted the problem as a "Campus-wide Partial Network Interruption" as of 8 a.m. (meaning that lots of other people all over campus can't connect to the Internet either), and their staff are "actively investigating the problem."

In the meantime, there's always the computer lab (if you're reading this, you're probably already there). Or, perhaps, take this time to cuddle up with a good book, catch up on "Lost," or sing in the rain.

Published by Keren E. Rohe on March 13, 2010 at 6:14PM

Though most of the newly-inducted Leverett freshmen opened their doors to boisterous,  camouflaged, letter-bearing Leverett upperclassmen on Thursday morning, a few were greeted by something entirely different: the semi-secret Sorrento Square social organization that used to occasionally publish a so-called humor magazine—more commonly known as the Lampoon.

  • Boloco Changes its Menu

Published by Punit N. Shah on March 12, 2010 at 4:47PM

Boloco changed its menu—but why? “We wanted to confuse everyone,” joked Boloco’s General Manager Sal Airo Farulla.

In reality, Boloco changed its menu this week in order to reflect customers’ e-mails, Facebook comments, and tweets. The changes include making the names of some of the burritos and shakes more exciting while adding a few new options (Yucatan Habanero, anyone?).
